She was in handcuffs and yet this was the most freedom she felt in a long time. She was
safe and the children were safe. What more could she ask for? Some people might believe
she was crazy for wanting to stay in prison than her fourteen room mansion with servants
who catered to her every need.

Raven had to laugh when she heard the snide remarks about her losing her freedom. If
people only understood that long ago, she had already lost her freedom. If she could
pinpoint a day, it would have been the day she turned twelve years old, the day when you
should be having a blast with your friends. Not Raven, for she was too busy becoming a
woman on that day.

Her guard shoved her down in the chair. Raven felt pain as she hit the metal of the chair,
but she would never let them see her cry. She was through with crying. Long ago, she
learned that it was a frivolous act. No one really understood people and their pain. People
were apathetic. Whatever was in it for them...and to heck with the rest of the world.

That was where Raven was. She didn’t care what people did to her. Her dignity was taken
a long time ago along with the prize possession of all females. The prison guards taunted
her, especially the women who believed Raven carried an air that she was better than
people. But they didn’t know her at all. She was a kid who grew up before her time. The
men guards touched her in her private area every time they got a chance. Raven never
blinked or cried.

She was put in a population with four females, three of them who thought she was fresh
meat. They had hairbrushes and broomsticks and would have liked to gang up on her. But
Raven merely sat on her cot and waited for their attack. Raven never moved or blinked.
She was already dead inside. Why not let them finish the job? They wanted her as did every
other man and sometimes woman did when they saw her. The fourth female whose name
was Becca backed the three women away from her. Rebecca Shayne became her
protector. But nothing bothered Raven.

Why should anything bother her? Her body never belonged to her anyway. Raven learned
that long ago also. He controlled her mind, body, and soul. He held the power, but not
anymore, never again.

And she was sick. There was a pain in her abdomen. From the last beating she took
maybe. She wasn’t sure what was wrong with her. But what did it matter. If she died
tonight, she would be so happy.

She waited for the District Attorney to walk in. John McBain, the man who would
prosecute her case. The man who would put the nail in her coffin. John McBain, her
adopted uncle. He would walk in the door and scowl at her like he normally did. He
would threaten and then he would tell her how she was and still would have been such a
disappointment to his sister who had given her a home when she didn’t have one. He
would lay one heavy guilt trip and when that didn’t work, he would become angry
demanding that she tell him where she hid his nieces. And of course, Raven
would not say a mumbling word. She would go to the grave before she put the children
back into that situation. He would then offer her a deal. Her punishment for attempted
murder would be lightened if she would give him access to the children.

Attempted murder of Governor Adam Cambias, her husband, the man who took her life
away. Even that was ironic, because if she was actually guilty of trying to kill Adam
Cambias, she would have succeeded. Whoever shot him deserved to be in jail for missing
vital organs. No, if Raven had of actually been the one to shoot Adam, she would never
have missed her target. He would be dead right now.

Raven was an expert when it came to shooting. She would have aimed for Adam’s penis
and shot it full of holes and then went for his heart because he has none.

Now he was just wounded in the stomach and leg. Raven learned his status was upgraded.
He was no longer in critical condition and he was demanding that Raven be prosecuted
for her crime and he loved his children so much. He wanted them back safely.

But he would never get them back. He would never be able to do to Kassidy, Kaden, and
Kayla what he done to her. Those three girls would be safe. She entrusted Sam and Jason
with their well-being. Raven met Sam when they both were in the hospital suffering from
miscarriages. Raven and Adam were in Port Charles and Adam went into one of his
rages. He kicked the hell out of Raven and the baby. Raven was rushed to the hospital,
but she knew her baby was dead before she even went into the doors of the Port Charles
Hospital. Adam portrayed the grieving husband. Jason and Sam didn’t believe it for one
minute. It was Sam’s first baby and she lost it. Raven and Sam ended up comforting one
another and developing a friendship.

Raven told Sam and Jason her story and for the first time someone actually believed her.
Jason worked for Sonny Corinthos, the mob boss. Raven met Sonny. He might be a
mobster, but he loved children. Sonny volunteered Jason’s services to take Adam out, but
Raven knew that he would have to keep taking the Cambias and McBain families out.
Her plan was better. Jason and Sam both agreed to take care of the children until she
could escape. Jason even taught Raven how to use a gun if something went wrong with
the plan.

But something turned wrong. Someone shot Adam and now she was getting blamed for it.
Although she would end up in jail, Sam and Jason would still take care of the children
and make sure no one would ever hurt them. The children were on Sonny’s private island.
No one even knew Raven was acquainted with anyone from Port Charles.

Raven didn’t have time to think on the children now because in walked Assistant District
Attorney John McBain.

“Rebecca, the case looks good! We should have you out of here and back with your
family by the end of the day,” Evangeline McBain said smiling at her client and one of
her good friends. Rebecca had come to work for Todd and Evangeline two months ago.
She was a valued employee and now a client.

“The paperwork is being processed as we speak. You will be home with your daughter on
her birthday,” Todd said.

“Thank you, Evangeline and Todd.” You are a wonderful sister and brother team. I
appreciate how you believed in me,” Rebecca said happily as the tears continue to roll
down her cheeks.

Evangeline was on the verge of crying herself. Rebecca was innocent and was being
railroaded by the D.A.’s office to accept a plea. Rebecca’s husband abused her and
stalked her and finally when Rebecca got tired, she ran. Her husband tracked her down
and the two of them fought. Her husband ended up falling down a flight of stair
paralyzing him. He portrayed himself as the victim and the D.A.’s office believed him.
After all there was no proof because Rebecca’s husband was a powerful man.

Todd had taken the case and dragged Evangeline in. The two of them worked together. It
was a case that never got to court because Antonio, their investigator turned up some
information that backed up Rebecca’s claim. Evangeline had breathed a sigh of relief
because she did not want to go up against John in court. Her one loss in court was
because of her own husband. He was an excellent attorney. She only wished he would
come and work for her instead of the DA’s office.

“You have done so much for me. I hate to even ask this,” Rebecca said to Evangeline.

“Rebecca, you know you can ask anything of me!” Evangeline said to the woman who
Evangeline considered a friend more than a client.

“They brought a girl in the other day. She can’t be more than nineteen or twenty. She has
the face of a seventeen year old. But I know she must be 19 or 20. She is very beautiful.
She could be a model, but she has such sad eyes, no sad is the wrong word. She has dead
eyes. The lady guards don’t mind hitting her and she says nothing. The male guards touch
her in inappropriate places. She never flinches. There were three women who saw her as
fresh meat. They were about to attack her and place a broom stick up her rectum. I’m the
one who saved her. She never said anything and she never tried to protect herself. I’m
scared for her. Yesterday I asked her why she never fought back. Afterall she was
supposedly in jail for trying to kill someone. Why didn’t she protect herself? She told me
her story. It was a story that would make someone cry and yet as she told the story, it was
as if she were ice cold. It started when she had turned 12. All I could think of was my
daughter who turns 12 today. And if someone took my child’s innocence,” Rebecca said
as the tears poured down her face.

She listened to Raven’s story and it sent bitter chills up and down her spine.

“Her name is Raven Cambias.”

Evangeline and Todd both had horrid expressions on their faces. “You know her?”
Rebecca asked.

“She’s my husband’s niece and she deserves to be in here,” Evangeline said angrily. “She
tried to kill her husband and now has taken the children and hid them.”

Todd stayed silent.

“Oh no, you’re wrong. She didn’t try to kill her husband. I know a murderer when I see
one and Raven Cambias is the victim. If she is your niece-in-law, than you are one of the
people who turned a blind eye to her plea. And you must be the Todd she was talking
about. You have to help her. Someone does. She will die in this place and she doesn’t
care. She’s sick also. I’m no doctor. But her temperature has to be at 102. She is in
physical pain and yet she keeps her mouth shut.”

“Rebecca,” Evangeline said patiently. “You don’t know the whole story. She had no right
to take the children and hide them.”

“No, Evangeline, it is you who doesn’t understand the whole story. She hid those girls so
they would not become like her and lose their innocence and the will to live. Now they
have a chance to live, while she dies. I can never imagine someone that young losing the
will to live.”

“What did she tell you?” Todd asked finally breaking his silence.

“She loved you at one time until you thought she betrayed you and then you abandoned
her,” Rebecca said to Todd. “She thought when Evangeline married John, there would be
someone who believed her. But instead you all believed Caitlyn, her adopted mother.
When Caitlyn died, John blamed her. When she married Adam Cambias, you all thought
she was greedy and wanted the status of being the Governor’s wife. She did it to protect
the girls so they wouldn’t end up like her.

“What are you saying?” Evangeline asked.

“I’m saying that the DA’s office is about to railroad her and she won’t budge. She will be
given a public defender even though she can afford a high powered attorney, but she
won’t care. The public defender will tell her to plead guilty and she will even though she
innocent. They will get her for kidnapping charges and she will be placed in this jail
where the guards both female and male will rape and abuse her. She won’t care because
she is used to it. She won’t cry. No emotion will come forth at all. The inmates will then
take their turn with her. They will rape and sodomize her and when she doesn’t give them
the response they are looking for, they will kill her and then she will have her total
freedom. Free from people who think she is a slut and a whore. She will be free because
she will not have to look in the face of the man she truly loves and see his eyes full of
betrayal and anger. She will be free from a man who has abused her since she was a child.
And she will be free because no one will ever be able to find the three great loves of her
life and they will be safe from the world that her adopted mother created before she died.
You know what she was singing last night in a prison. She has a beautiful voice.

“Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty! I’m Free at Last!”

Evangeline looked at Todd and Todd looked at Evangeline. What were they supposed to
do?

‘Go and hear her story Evangeline, Todd. If you think she is still a lying slut who betrayed
all of you, don’t take the case. But if you finally believe her, then please show her that
this life is worth living and that she is not alone in this world.”
