How Do I Prove My Love
Evangeline was sitting at her desk working on a case when her phone
rang.
"Evangeline Williamson."she said
"Hey,it's me."came the smokey,sexy voice that always turned her inside
to mush.
"Hi John,what's up?"she asked
"I was just wondering if you would consider having lunch with me."
"I don't know,John."she said
"Come on,Evangeline.It's just lunch,please."John pleaded
She hesitated for a moment and then said."Ok,John.I'll meet you at
Rodi's at 1:00.
John smiled and said."1:00 is great,but meet me at the Country Club
instead."
"The Country Club.Ok,who are you and what have you done with the real
John McBain?"she said laughing
"Haha,very funny.Is that a yes or a no?"he asked anxiously
"Yes John.That's a yes.I'll see you at 1:00."
He smiled excitedly and said."See you then."
Evangeline walked onto the patio at The Country Club and saw John
sitting in a corner.
When she walked over to the table,he stood up and she was confused
to see him standing there in a black trenchcoat.
She laughed and said."John,why are you wearing a trenchcoat in
80 degree weather?"
"I'll tell in a few minutes,but for now let's order lunch."he said smiling
She laughed and said."Ok."
They called the waitress over and ordered two chef salads and 2 iced
teas.
They laughed and talked through lunch and when they finished,Evangeline
said."Ok,I can't take it any longer.What's with the trench?"
John took another sip of his tea and said."Well,I want you back and I
was trying to think of a way to prove to you that I want to give us a real
shot this time.I knew that I had to find a way to get you to believe me
when I say I love you,that I've always loved you.Then I remembered a
conversation we had in the diner one night.Remember when I had to
explain to you who Roger Clemons was?"
She laughed,remembering that conversation and said."Yes,John.I
remember."
"Well you said you would love to play tennis with me and I said that
you would never see me on a tennis court,because I didn't even own
a pair of shorts.Well."
He stood up,took off his trench and stood there in a crisp new white
tennis outfit and said."Let's go play tennis,Cookie."
Evangeline sat there in shock.She couldn't believe what she was seeing.
"Evangeline,did you hear me?"John asked
"Yeah,John I heard you."she said snapping out of her shock.She laughed
and said."You realize I'm going to humiliate you,right.?"
He laughed and said."That's ok.Next time it'll be my turn to humiliate
you in pool."
They got up and headed for the tennis courts.Just then Blair Cramer
passed them and said."Nice legs Lt.McBain."
John smiled and said."You've got a nice set of gams youself,Ms.Cramer."
Evangeline went on to crush John on the court,6-1,6-2,6-love,but
he didn't care because he was one step closer to getting his Cookie
back.
