In A Flash
Evangeline was awakened by knocking at her door.She glanced at the
clock to see that it was 2 am.
She got up,put on her robe and went to the door.She looked through the
peephole and saw that it was John.She opened the door and said."John
it's 2 am, what do you want?"
"I need to talk to you."he said quickly.
She looked at him frustrated and said."Whatever it is it can wait until
morning."
"No it can't.I've waited too long to say this.Now can I please come in?"he
said hoping that she would let him in.
"Alright come in.You really should be at home resting, John.You just
got out of the hospital."
"I'm fine, but I need to say this before I lose my nerve again."
She moved to the side and let him in.
He walked in and sat in the chair next to the fireplace.
"What is so important that you had to come to my apartment in the
middle of the night?"
"The plain crash finally woke me up.My life flashed before my eyes and
the only parts that I saw that were happy were the parts that involved
my relationship with you.I don't want to waste anymore time.I want you
to know how I feel about you."
"You can stop right there, John.I already know how you feel.You don't
love me.I've known that for a long time so what could you possibly say
that I don't already know."
He smiled and said."That you are completely wrong, because I do love
you.I've loved for, I can't even remember a time when I wasn't in love
with you."
Just then Layla came out of her bedroom and said."What the hell is he
doing here?"
Evangeline was about to tell her to go back to bed when John said."I'm
finally thinking with my heart instead of my head."
Layla looked at him confused and said."What does that mean?"
"It means I'm here to tell your sister that I love her and that she is the
most important person in my life."
"Oh is that right.Well let me ask you this?"Layla said before Evangeline
interrupted and said."No, Layla.Go back to bed, now."
"It's ok Evangeline.Go ahead Layla, what do you want to ask me?"John said
"Ok, say my sister decides to give you a second chance and the two
of you are having a romantic dinner when your cell phone rings.You
answer it and it's Natalie Vega saying John I need you.What do you do?"
"Well I wouldn't be able to answer the phone,because it would be on my
nightstand at home.I don't want my cell phone interferring with my quiet
time with my lady love."
"Ok,good answer, but here's another question.Say you and my sister
are at your apartment again enjoying some of that quiet time and there's
a knock at the door.You go to see who it is and again it's Natalie.She
pushes past you and says I need to talk to you.It's important, John.What
do you do then?"
"Well first she doesn't have my new address and second if she was able
to find out where I live now I would tell her that I can't help her anymore
and she should go find one of her 5,000 relatives in this town and talk
to them.Then I would ask her to leave."
"Wow,I'm impressed.Ok Vange, I think you should give him another
chance."Layla said heading back to her room.
Just as she started to walk into her room she turned back and said."John
what if I hadn't given in that easy.What would you have done then?"
John laughed brought his hand from behind his back and said."Bribery."
She walked back over to him and he handed her three movies starring
her favorite actress.
She smiled and said."How did you know that Audrey Hepburn was my
favorite actress?"
He laughed and said."Evangeline mentioned it once."
She stood up on her tiptoes, kissed him and said."Thank you, John.You're
alright after all."
He laughed again and said."Thanks Layla.So are you."
She turned to go back to her room then she stopped in front of Evangeline,
kissed her goodnight and said."Vange if you don't take him back I'll take
him.He's definitely a winner."
When Layla was gone John looked at Evangeline and said."Well I've got
the Layla Williamson seal of approval, now how about the most important
one.The one from you."
Evangeline was quiet for a moment and then said."Alright John.You've
got your second chance, but unlike baseball there is no third strike.You
screw up this time that's it."
He smiled and said."I don't need a third strike, because I plan on getting a
homerun with this chance and I'm never letting you go again.I love you,Cookie."
She punched him in the arm and said."I love you too,Johnny Mac."
"Well I guess I better go.Can we have lunch tomorrow?I'll leave my cell
at the office."John asked praying that she would say yes.
"Lunch would be great.Rhodi's at 1:00.I'm in the mood for a big greasy
cheesburger."Evangeline said grinning
"I'll see you at 1:00.I love you."John said leaning down to kiss her.
"I love you too."Evangeline said returning the kiss.
"Goodnight Layla.You can come out of the shadows I'm leaving."
"Goodnight John.Thanks for the movies."Layla said
"You're welcome.Thanks for the L.W.S.O.A."John said with a wink
"The what?"Layla asked
John laughed."The Layla Williamson Seal Of Approval."
He walked down the hall toward the elevator and then remembered
something.
Evangeline hadn't closed the door and he caught them jumping around
and heard Evangeline singing."I got my man back, I got my man back.
He cleared his throat and they both turned to see him grinning.
"John, I thought you left."Evangeline said embarrassed that he caught
them.
"I started to and then I realized that I forgot to give you my new home
phone number."he said handing her a card with the number on it."I'm
going to call you in the morning, because I want the first voice I hear
to be yours.Goodnight ladies."
He turned to leave and just as Evangeline was about to close the door
she and Layla looked out into the hall and John was dancing toward
the elevator and they heard him singing."I got my woman back, I got
my woman back."
