Saturday In The Park

It was the day of the annual Llanview founders day picnic and Michael talked John into going.

He was sitting on the bench across from the Angel
when Evangeline walked by.

"Nice day."John said

"Oh hi John.Yes it is."Evangeline said

"Will you join me?"

She hesitated for a second then said."Sure I seem to have misplaced my sister and that new boyfriend of her's anyway."

She walked over and sat down next to him.

They sat for a few minutes in a uncomfortable silence.
Finally John said."It used to be so easy for us to talk
to each other. Now it's like neither of us knows what
to say.Why is that?"

"I don't know John.Anyway I just saw Layla and that
boyfriend of her's so I better go."Evangeline said getting up and walking away.

"You're my best friend.Did you know that?"John said

"What?"Evangeline asked

"You're my best friend and when you left me it was like
losing my best friend."John said. Then he stood up and
walked over to her."That day when you asked me if I
could tell you that I loved you do you know how badly
I wanted to scream hell yes I love you.But I couldn't do
it.I don't know if it was fear or stupidity but I just couldn't
do it."

"John I can't do this right now. Please it's been over for
a long time. Can't we just let it go and move on?"

"That's just it.I can't move on.I tried to move on with
Natalie just like you triied to move on with Cristian.
Now we're both alone.I think it's because we both
know that we belong together and that we're soulmates."John said

"John please don't do this."Evangeline said as he wrapped his arms around her.

"You know there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about you or how much I hurt you."John said as he kiss the inside of her neck.

Evangeline pulled away from him and screamed."You're damn right you hurt me.Do you know how bad it hurt that day when you couldn't tell me you loved me and watching you with Natalie ripped my heart out.Now you stand there and tell me that you loved me all along.Well it's too little too late."

"Evangeline please.Let me try and fix what I did to us.
Isn't there anything that I can do to make this right. So
that we can be together again.Like we should have been all along."John pleaded

"No."she said and then started to walk away.

"Don't you know that there isn't anywhere in this town that I can go and not think of you.My office, the diner, Rodi's and this park. This is where we were standing when we met.I still remember that day like it was yesterday."John said in desparation.

"Don't you think I know all of that? It's the same for me."
Evangeline said

"Then let's start again.Please Evangeline.If we don't we
will go through life wondering if it would have work this time around."

"What about Natalie?"Evangeline said

"She will never be a problem for us again.I told her there was no future for us and that we couldn't even be friends anymore."John said."Then she told me to go to hell.I told her I had been in hell since the day you walked out on me.Let's just say she didn't take that statement very well and I ended up with a beer on my head."

Evangeline laughed and said."Ouch."

"It wasn't so bad.Beer is really good for the hair."John laughed."But seriously. Can we please try again.I love you."

"I love you too."Evangeline said

"How about I buy you a burger at the diner. This bbq really sucks."John said

"You're on."Evangeline said.

They linked fingers and headed for the diner to talk about their future.
