Johnny's Christmas Angel

John and Evangeline McBain have been married for
almost a year.Tonight was Christmas Eve and
they were celebrating with John's mother, brother,
sister-in-law, nephew and his cousin Shannon.

"Uncle John will you tell me the story about Santa
Claus?"Tommy asked climbing up on his lap.

"Sure Tommy."John said."Let's see."

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
while visions of sugar plums danced in their heads.
And Mama in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap.

When out on the roof there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
tore open the shutter, and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
gave the lustre of midday to objects below,
when, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles, his coursers they came,
and he whistled and shouted and called them by name:

John stopped and looked down at Tommy."Can
you help me with this part Tommy.I don't know if
I can names all of those reindeer."

"Ok."Tommy said excitedly.

"Now Dasher! Now Dancer!
Now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid!
On, Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch!
To the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away!
Dash away all!"

John tickled Tommy and he giggled. Then he continued
the story.

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
when they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky
so up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
with the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
the prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head and was turning around,
down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
and his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
and he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes--how they twinkled! His dimples, how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
and the beard on his chin was as white as the snow.
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
and the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
that shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
and I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself.
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
and filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
and giving a nod, up the chimney he rose.

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, 'ere he drove out of sight,

"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

When John finished the story he looked down at Tommy and smiled when he noticed that at some point in the story he had fallen asleep.

"You think my story bored him."John said smiling

Marcie walked over and said."No I think he's had a
long day and stayed up an hour passed his bedtime."

She picked him up and carried him to bed.

A few minutes later John and Evangeline said their
good nights and went home.

When they got home John insisted that they go
straight to bed because he wanted to be up bright
and early Christmas morning.

The next morning John woke Evangeline the same
way he had since their wedding night by nibbling
on her earlobe.

She smiled turned toward him and he smiled and
said."Merry Christmas Angel."

Evangeline stretched and said."Merry Christmas."

Then she frowned noticing it was still dark outside.
She looked over at the clock on her nightstand
and gasped when she saw that it was only 4:30.

"4:30.John why did you wake me up so early?"

"Because it's Christmas morning silly.Come on lets
go get some breakfast and then open our presents."

Evangeline groaned and said."John go back to sleep
for a couple of hours."

John stood up bent down and scooped her out of
bed carrying her to the living room.

He laid her on the couch and said."You go back to
sleep while I make breakfast. Then we can eat and
after that we can open our presents."

He walked into the kitchen and put bread in the toaster
while he scrambled some eggs and made the
coffee.

A few minutes later he carried a breakfast tray in
and sat it on the ottomen and leaned down to
gently wake his sleeping wife.

"He the foods ready.Wake up and eat it before it
gets cold."

Evangeline grumbled sat up and said."I hope this
only happens once a year because if you start
waking me at this time every morning I may kill
you."

John laughed and said."I promise once a year."

She smiled kissed him and they ate breakfast.

When they were done John dove for the tree and
said."Ok you open mine first."

Evangeline laughed and said."Ok."

When she opened it she started crying."John it's
those garnet and diamond earrings I wanted.I didn't
think you knew."

"Angel you walked by that window everyday and
practically drooled over them.A man would have
to be either blind or stupid not to know that you
wanted them."

Evangeline kissed him passionately and then said.
"Ok it's your turn."

John grabbed the present and ripped the paper.

When he opened the box he couldn't believe what
he saw."Oh my God an Eagles jersey signed by
Donovan McNabb and an Eagles jacket.Thank you
baby."

She smiled said."You're welcome but there's more
in the bottom of the box."

John looked again and saw a funny looking wand.
"What is this Evangeline?"

"It's a pregnancy test John."she said hoping he
would get the message.

"A pregnancy test but why...."his sentence trailed
off when he finally got it."Oh my God Angel are you
sure?"

She shook her head yes and he looked at her with
the biggest smile she had ever seen and hugged
her to him.

"I love you Evangeline."John said beaming

"I love you too John."Evangeline said also beaming.

A few minutes later they got dressed and head to
Philly for Christmas dinner with Evangeline's family.
