Always On My Mind
Evangeline was sitting at her desk the day before
Valentine's Day.She had ended things with Todd a
couple of weeks before so she didn't have any plans.
She was lost in her thoughts of what could have been
when her assistant Mary knocked on her door.
"Ms.Williamson this envelope was left on my desk.It
has your name on it and this pink rose was with it."
"Thank you Mary."Evangeline said as Mary put the
envelope and rose on the desk and then turned to
leave.
Evangeline smiled as she smelled of the rose.Then
she opened the envelope pulling out the note and
read:
If you want to know what true love is come to this
address tomorrow night at 8.

345 Fuller apartment 35H.
Evangeline stared at the note confused for a moment
and then buzzed Mary.
"Yes Ms.Williamson."
"Mary,did you see who left this note?"
"No mam it was on my desk when I came back from
lunch."
"Thank you Mary."
She looked at the note again and hoped that it wasn't
Todd trying to get back together because that wasn't
going to happen.Then she thought of Cris but the idea
that he wanted her back just made her cringe(pun intended)
Suddenly she smiled remembering a special time she
shared there with John.
March 25,2005
"Hey I want you to know.I do feel horrible about missing
dinner tonight."
"Good,Professor Nolan is a tough nut to crack you know.If you ever do get to meet him you're gonna have to work really hard to make a good impression."
"Fine I'll be sure to wear clean matching socks that
night and show him what kind of man of substance
I really am."
"Hahaha sure."
"You know I've been thinking.I've been think I should
get a stomach bug."
"What?"
"Eh, I could use some rest myself.I mean you said
you were contagious,right."John said leaning in.
"I don't know.You are taking a chance here."
"So worth it."he said as he leaned in further and kissed
her.
"No that's not gonna make me sick."he said kissing
her again.
He pulled back licked his lips and said."No not enough
bug yet."then he kissed her again.
"There I got it.Yeah I can feel it."
"John,I don't think I can handle anything but sleep tonight."
"That's fine with me.Why don't you just sit back and
relax and we'll watch some tv or I'll read to you.You
want me to read to you?"
"Yeah."
"Is there a book you want?"
Suddenly a knock on her door brought her back to
the present.
"Come in."she said.
"Hey do you have a minute?"Nora said
Evangeline smiled and said."For you I have all the time
in the world."
Nora smiled walked in sat down and said."I need to
know how things are coming in the Thomas case.The
Mayor is breathing down my neck about it."
Suddenly Nora noticed that Evangeline seemed to be
in her on little world and wasn't paying any attention
to her."Evangeline did you hear me?"
"Yeah sounds great."Evangeline said.
"Ok good so I'll marry Todd Manning.I'm glad you agree."
"What?"Evangeline said snapping back to reality.
Nora laughed and said."Nothing I was just trying to
snap you out of the daydream you were in.What's up
sweetie?"
Evangeline passed Nora the note and said."I got this
a few minutes ago and I was just trying to figure out
who it could be from."
Nora read the note and said."You want my opinion?"
Evangeline smiled and said."Always."
"I think you should go.You haven't been on a date
since you ended things with Todd.I just hope it's not
Cris.The idea of Cris wanting you back is just nausiating.Not him wanting you back.He'd be crazy not to want you but the idea of you taking him back.
"You don't have to worry about that.I have no intention
of ever making that mistake again."
"Good, so go and have a great time.Who knows this
may turn out to be the man that finally makes you
consider marriage."Nora said getting up to leave.
"Hey wait.What did you come in here for?"
"Oh yeah the Thomas case but don't worry about that
I can handle the Mayor.You just go to that address
tomorrow night and have a great time."
"Thanks Nora.See ya later."
Evangeline finished out the day and went home.
The next night she walked up to the door of her old
apartment nervously and knock on the door.
When the door opened she somehow wasn't surprised to see John standing there.
"Hey, you're right on time.Come in."John said stepping
to the side.
Evangeline walked in and couldn't believe how beautiful everything looked.
There were roses of every color scattered around the
room.
John closed the door and then turned back to her.
He pulled his hand from behind his back and had
two long stem roses.One red and one white.
"These are for you.The red one is for the love I have
for you and the white one is for the purity of what I
hope is our new beginning."
Evangeline took the roses and said."John all of this is
beautiful but what is going on here?"
He took her hand and lead her to the couch."Well first
of all welcome to my new apartment."
"New apartment?"she asked confused
"Yeah I thought it was time I made some changes.
Starting with my place of residence.I wanted to start
over and show you that I can change and be the man
you want.What I'm trying to say is.I'm just a boy
standing in front of a girl asking her to love me."
Evangeline looked at him shocked and said."Since
when are you into romantic comedies?"
John laughed and said."Well it was either that or.You
make me want to be a better man.But I thought this
one was more me.Anyway what I'm trying to say is
I love you.I've always loved you and I want us to make
a new start."
"John how do you expect me to believe all of this is
real?"Evangeline asked doubtfully.
"I'll prove it.You always wanted me to open up and
talk about my past.So ask me anything and I'll answer
it.Go ahead ask me anything?"
"I don't know John."
"Please Evangeline just ask me anything.I know that
there are things about me and my past that you want
to know so ask."John pleaded
"Ok what's your middle name?
"Patrick it was the name of my grandfather on my
mother's side of the family."
"What was your best childhood memory?"
"The first time my dad took me and Mikey to see the
Phillies play.I was so excited.I caught a flyball and
got it signed.Of course a week later my brother took
it out of the display case I had it in and ended up
smashing a neighbor's window out playing on the
sandlot two houses down from us.I never saw that
ball again but I still have the memories from that day."
"John I really love that you finally feel comfortable
sharing things with me about your childhood but I
still don't know if I can trust that you won't hurt me
again."
"Evangeline I'll do anything to prove to you that you
can trust in me and my love for you."
"You'll do anything?"she said
"Yes anything."John said
"Ok will you sing for me?"
John looked at her in shock then he said."You don't
want to hear me sing.Trust me."
"You said you would do anything."
"Yeah but I have a terrible voice."
"Ok well I guess we have nothing else to talk about."
Evangeline said turning to leave.

Evangeline turned back to John as he sang and just
stared at him not believing that he was actually doing
it.
When he finished he said."Ok now do you believe me
when I tell you that I'll do anything to get you to give
me a second chance?"
Evangeline started crying and rushed into John's arms.
"I love you John.Thank you for this and for making this
the happiest Valentine's Day I've ever had."
"I love you too Evangeline.Thank you for giving me
a second chance to finally live a happy life."
"John I do have one request though."Evangeline said
staring into his beautiful blue eyes."
"What's that Angel?"
"Don't ever sing again.You were right.You have a
terrible voice."
"Deal."John said.
Then he cupped her face in his hands and pulled her
into a kiss that he hoped would last a lifetime.
