If I Could Go Back
John was sitting at the bar in Rodi's when he smelled
the beautiful and familiar scent of Flowers In Springtime and smiled.
"Hey you."He said as he turned to see her sitting next
to him.
"Hey John.Looks like we both had the same idea."
"Yeah."John said taking another swig of his beer.Then
he turned to the bartender and said."Hey Mac can
you bring the lady a beer?"
"Yeah sure thing John."Mac said handing Evangeline
a hounds.
"Thank you."she said smiling at John.
After a few minutes of silence John looked at her and
said."Do you ever wish you could go back and live just
one day differently?"
Evangeline smiled and said."Yeah sometimes.Why was today that bad?"
"No not today.June 9, 2005."John said
Evangeline searched her memory not sure why that
date was so significant.
"Why that day John?What happened that day that you
wish you could change?"she asked still confused
"That was the day my world came crashing down around me because my best friend and the love of my life walked out on me and took my heart with her."John said looking at her sadly.
"John please don't do this."Evangeline said.
"No I have to do this.It should have been done a long
time ago so please don't stop me."John said pleadingly.
He took a deep breath and said."The ACPD sent my
stuff to me that survived the accident.Everything was
unrecognizable except this."He said handing her a
photograph.
"The picture of us from Nora's wedding.You had this
with you that day?"Evangeline asked
"Yeah I kept it in my wallet.It was the only thing in my
wallet that wasn't burned beyond recognition.I think that's a sign that it was meant to be.That we are meant to be."John answered.
"But you told Natalie that you loved her.You told your
mother that Natalie was your soul mate."
"I told Natalie that I loved her because it was what she
wanted to hear.Being with her was easy.She didn't expect anything from me.She just want to be saved.I needed to be the hero.Oh and as far as what my mother told Natalie I never said that she was my soul mate.Until you came along I didn't know what a soul mate was.You made me want to be a better man.You made me want to be happy.When I came back after my accident you were happy with Cris and I didn't want to ruin that so I stayed with Natalie because I didn't want to be alone anymore.I was stupid and I need you to tell me that it's not too late for us."
Evangeline looked at him shocked and said."John what is this all about?"
"It's about me wanting to finally be happy for the first
time since I was ten years old.It's about me wanting
to have the love of my life my best friend and the
woman that holds my heart back.Please Evangeline
please say that it's not too late for us."John said getting
down on bended knee.
Evangeline couldn't help but giggle at him."John get up,people are staring at you."
"I don't care.I'm not getting up off of this floor until you
tell me that it's not too late for us and I haven't lost your
forever."
Evangeline stared at him still in disbelief and said nothing for several minutes.
"John how do I know that if I take you back that the
same thing that happened before won't happen again?"
Held up the picture again."Because of this.It's the only
thing that survived.I've always believed in signs.This is
a sign that you and I are meant to be.You are my soul
mate.Please Evangeline please take me back.I swear
to you that I won't let you down this time."John said
still on bended knee.
Evangeline took a deep breath and said."Ok John I'll
take you back but if that redhead tries to get in our
way this time you may have to arrest me for assault
beacause I may beat the hell out of her."Evangeline
said.
John stood up pulled her into his arms and said."No one will ever come between us again.I love you Evaneline.You really are my best friend and the love of my life and you will have my heart forever."
"I love you too John.Oh if it doesn't work out this time
you're a dead man."Evangeline said
"It's going to work because we are we are two bodies
with one connected soul."John said just before he
pulled her into a kiss that he'd wanted for almost two
years.
